A huge night of speedway action is set for this Saturday at the Robertson Prestige International Speedway, with something on the programme for the whole family! The popular Cowgirls vs Cowboys Stockcar teams race returns, along with the prestigious North Island Minisprint Championship, the Saloon King of the Arena will be crowned and the daredevil Sidecars compete for their Manawatu Championship.
The return of the popular Girls vs Boys Stockcar teams race is always a much-discussed topic, and the ‘battle of the sexes’ was a close contest at the previous event. This year it’s hard to pick who the favourite will be - the KB Cowgirls have a strong team that includes 23p Riki Kauri, 85g Brittany Carpenter, 55b Asha Penn and 134p Rebecca Barr, who should give the Cowboys a run for their money. The Cowboys have an equally strong team to take on the Cowgirls, with 6v Dion Mooney, 46v Ashton Mooney, 39p Graeme Munn and 33t Trazarn Ryland-Annabell. These teams races are always exciting!
The Top Cat Contracting North Island Minisprint Championship will be hotly contested, with local hometown heroes likely to have the home track advantage and be strong podium contenders. Drivers including 8p Nathan Jefferies and 81p Glen McCutcheon are all in serious contention for the title. Defending champion 18p Daniel Nickel is in fine form and will be looking to go back-to-back. Coming off the high of winning the New Zealand Minisprint Grand Prix at Oceanview Speedway, placing third in the New Zealand Minisprint Championship at Stratford Speedway, and finishing second in the Manawatu Championship, he is certainly one to watch this weekend. With drivers from Stratford and Wanganui rounding out a quality field, this Top Cat Contracting North Island Minisprint Championship is likely to go down to the wire.
Saloons return to the Central Energy Trust Arena in the form of Corvettes, Camaros, and Mustangs racing wheel-to-wheel, with a packed field of drivers ready to put on a spectacular show as the King of the Arena is crowned. The Saloon class has produced some thrilling racing this season, with drivers like 7p Clayton More, 57p Calvin Honore, and 81p Jonathan Mason ones to keep a close eye on during this Championship.
The daredevil Sidecars are also on the programme, racing side-by-side for the prestigious AFC Motorcycles Manawatu title. Fans can expect fast and thrilling racing, with early interest suggesting this will be one of the biggest and best Sidecar meetings of the season. With many local rider and swinger combinations competing consistently throughout the season, it’s anybody’s guess who will take the top spot on the podium. 8p Rob Miller & Jaxon Hannan have had an impressive season so far, with first placings in both the New Zealand Sidecar Grand Prix and the North Island titles this season. Also included in the lineup are 3nz David Gannon & Daryl Pearce, local favourites 5p Wingnut & Sam McNaught, 17p Tony Hislop & Aidan Foothead, 89p Wayne & Max Lett, and the returning powerhouse combination of 97p Mike Zachan & Ben Franklin.

Admission prices are $30 for an Adult (16 years and over), $10 for Children aged 8-15, and $70 for a Family pass of 2 adults and up to four children. Kids aged 7 and under are FREE.
Tickets are available to pre-purchase online from www.eventfinda.co.nz, (tickets purchased incur an additional service fee) or on race day from Gate 1 (Waldegrave Street), Gate 2 (Cuba Street - Bridge) and Gate 3 (Cook Street) from 5pm.
Racing starts at 6pm.
