Super Saloon Grand Prix This Saturday

It’s going to be a SUPER night at the Robertson Prestige International Speedway this Saturday, 7th March when the New Zealand Super Saloon Grand Prix is decided, along with the 'future of speedway' Manawatu Youth Ministock Championship, with full support from the metal-crunching Stockcars who make their return to the Arena, so expect a night of awesome racing from all classes!

New Zealand’s top Super Saloons drivers are expected in the impressive line-up of drivers from the North and South Island, including recently crowned 1nz Chris Cowling who will be racing alongside 20+ of the best Super Saloon drivers, in one epic night of racing action.

The Lucas Oil New Zealand Super Saloon Grand Prix is set to give the race fans some of the best wide-wheel Super Saloon racing this season, with a stellar lineup of drivers who are all within grasp of the title - this is set to be a sensational, down to the wire championship. Drivers from Auckland, Tauranga, Stratford, Hawkes Bay, and the South Island plus the local hometown heroes will all be racing side-by-side to decide the champion. This is one championship which will have you on the edge of your seat all night.

The future of speedway, the Youth Ministock class, will also be competing for their Manawatu Championship. Youth Ministocks have fostered many speedway competitors into other classes, and the skill of these young drivers is something to admire. Many New Zealand Champions started their speedway racing career driving in the Ministock class, with a new Manawatu Youth Ministock Champion crowned this weekend after the attempt in January rained out.

The Youth class this season has seen over 40 cars registered with the Robertson Prestige International Speedway, and with many local hard-charging drivers who will be in with a real chance of taking the podium honours. Fresh from success at the Oceanview 5000, 52p Boston Joblin, 23p Kobe Dorn and 21p Mason Taylor will all be drivers to watch and are likely to be at the pointy end of the field. With some stiff competition likely from 294p Charlie Newman, 77p Will Carroll-Holland and 18p Aiden Waihi who all are inside the top six in the Travel Managers Season Points Chase, the competition will be tough!

Local cars will be given preference to make the 60-car field. Please register your intention to compete, and any available positions for out-of-town cars will be filled by ballot from online registrations. The final field will be posted this week, please note you will need to re-enter for this new event after January's rainout.

Metal crunching Stockcars and spectacular Superstocks round out what will be an exceptional night of speedway action!
