A triple-header for three major classes takes place this Saturday night at the Robertson Holden International Speedway. One of the biggest pre-Xmas meetings anywhere in the country, the Robin Pratt Memorial Stockcar title is always hotly contested and provides a fitting tribute to one of Manawatu's Stockcar pioneers. Couple this with the Lucas Oil Superstock and Quin Buildings Direct Super Saloon series, and you have a recipe for action.
With another massive field of Stockcars expected to do battle for the silverware, picking a winner is anyone's guess. Defending champion 82p Roydon Winstanley had a stellar 2018/19 and will be keen to carry his winning run into this season. Former winner 667p Hamish McLeod is always on the pace, while 15p Luke Miers and 6v Dion Mooney looked the sharpest on opening night. This title is always hard-fought no matter who emerges triumphant, so it should be an entertaining night's racing.
The Superstock and Super Saloon classes contest the opening round of a Labour weekend series, carrying on to Hawkes Bay's Meeanee Speedway the following night. A dozen Super Saloons are plenty to get the heart racing, and feature competitors from around the lower North Island. Champion brothers 5b Steve and 6b Grant Flynn are confirmed, along with the interesting trio of father and daughters; 24p Martin, 242p Ashley and 724p Daniele Halcrow. A capacity field of Superstocks is expected again, with veteran Scott Miers leading the charge on opening night.
Minisprints, Sidecars and Adult Ministocks complete the race programme, which commences at 6:30pm. Admission prices are Adults $25 (16 years and over), $10 for children aged 8-15, and $60 for a family pass of 2 adults and up to four children. 7 and under are FREE.
